Okay guys, so our first ever fandom-wide project, the holiday poster to Butch got a pretty good response, drawing 57 total entries. We've already started bouncing ideas around for our next project, but I figure perhaps we ought to move the discussion to its own thread.
Looking at the ideas so far, it seems the most popular idea is a poster, or maybe a collage, or something with a Packers theme for former DP storywriter Steve Marmel. It's a well-documented fact that Steve is most definitely a cheesehead, and his favorite team is doing pretty well this season.
So let's figure that Steve is going to be the recipient of our second fandom-wide project. The question now is what exactly do we want to do? Story submissions turned out to be problematic for the holiday poster; however a Packers themed project seems to me that it would be more of an artist thing than a writer thing.
The obvious choices then are a collage poster like we've done for the holiday project; or a story/art book. Personally I'm in favor of the story/art book, if only because it will be easier to print and cost less to get completed.
We aren't in any hurry to decide yet: This is likely going to be a late spring/early summer project since we don't want to overlap DPOF's anniversary project. So I'm figuring an official announcement of the project probably no earlier than mid-March, with a submission deadline in early June.
So, your thoughts? |

Frankly, as long as there's room for artwork, I'm happy with whatever you choose.
Will this be Vlad-centic then? |

Okay, so this will be Packers-centirc then.
A list of all the shows he's worked on will be needed then, because I only know Danny Phantom, and Ying Yang Yo. Plus, I know if we don't provide one for everyone then they will only do Vlad.
Will this list be on his webolg or whatever it is he has? |

I worry that the Packer's theme might be a little too limiting. I'm just trying to imagine 57 different renditions of Vlad wearing a cheesehead.... I know that as a writer, I'd probably find the theme far too limiting.
I do like the idea of a book instead of a poster, though. Certainly would help you with that little "tetris" problem you had last time around! |

I'm not sure about the list... you could probably get a decent list from IMDB though.
Hm... okay, so maybe not strictly Packers-related maybe, but maybe just keep that as an option for people who want to do it? |

You definitely do want to do something that will include the people whose fingers aren't as deft with art as they are writing... so I'm thinking we could suggest Packers-themed pictures from people, not make it a requirement. (And I just looked up to see you'd already said that, FF...) |

Besides Vlad, can have some of the other DP characters in Packer attire...I also like the idea of using characters from other shows he's worked on. Besides just dressing them up you can have them in scenes where they're watching the game on TV, tail gating, or actually at the game..stuff like that..I'm just throwing ideas out there. |

You're absolutely right, and they are all very good ideas. And of course, there's Ying Yang Yo and whatever other shows Mr. Marmel has worked on, too. But I have to wonder whether 57 different people are going to come up with 57 different ideas. I can imagine a book filled with a lot of similar pictures! And football is such a uniquely American institution; would fans in other countries be inspired by the theme?
Here's a thought. Do we know of any episodes that were particularly Mr. Marmel's favorites, or characters that he was responsible for developing, or story arcs that he helped shape?
One last question. Do we know whether he is willing to read fanfiction? I had heard (long ago, when I was active in the Due South fandom) that professional TV writers avoid reading fanfic for liability reasons: they could never be successfully sued by a fanfic writer for "stealing" a story idea if they could swear in court that they never read fanfic. If that's the case with Mr. Marmel, there wouldn't be much point sending him stories along with the pictures.
(I don't mean to imply that Mr. Marmel, or any of Butch's writers, would actually steal a story from fanfic. But there are certain plot elements that could be similar without any copying at all; for example, if somebody were to write a sequel to The Ultimate Enemy in which the evil Dan were to be split by the ghost catcher, Firefury might suspect that the writer got the idea from her. But if the writer could swear that he has never read a single Danny Phantom fanfiction in his life, then he couldn't possibly have stolen the idea from Firefury. He just happened to come up with that same storyline on his own. On the other hand, if he can only say that he seldom or occasionally reads fanfic, he would open a whole can of reasonable doubt.) |

Why don't we present our theory of what his vision on season 3 would've been.
so far i got:
I got an email back from steve marmel...
I asked him what ideas he had for new danny if he could write new eppies:
"Oh, some day. But... yeah, I had a 13 episode arc involved... it included Vlad, the Fright Knight, the Ghost King and Dark Danny."
GET HIM BACK.
NOW.
D8
I;ve been watching Reign Storm and TUE (and any subsequent season 2 episodes written by marmel that involved Vlad) over and over to try to piece together what Vlad wanted to do with the Fright Knight and Dark Danny... not to mention the ghost king... D8 |

American football is actually enjoyed by fans from all over the world. Just last week there was fans from Argentina at the Packer game. Some countries even have their own leagues now. The U.S. has hosted a few games with NFL teams outside of the U.S.

Sounds fun. But I agree, while the idea of doing a Packers themed collection would be fun, having that much of a similar topic even with multiple characters would feel very monotonous. I think it could be an option, but as an option. Other themes could be included.
And yeah, fanfiction can be iffy. I know the co-creator of Gargoyles, while very active with the fans, doesn't read it because he doesn't want to risk the liability, and questions are generally filtered before being forwarded to him. |

Well let's see what I can throw into the ring....
Halloween we did a basket at DPOF....I got a wicker basket and we filled it with card sized artwork and candy. It was really neat, sent one to Nick and one to Butch.
Scrapbooks are great...I did one last year for Nick and one for Butch but they ARE very expensive...both books ended up costing me about 300.00 with shipping, ink cartidges and paper, but they're a great way to share DP with the creators of the show and I'm sure Steve would love one.
That's all I got...for now. |

If we do something that requires a fair amount of money, I really think that some of the older participants should help out with the cost. Firefury has spent her money on the website, the last project, all sorts of stuff.
And if we did fanfiction that incorporated characters not from the same show, would that be acceptable? Pull a Maba on the fics and stuff? ^_~

I'd be willing to chip in if it's needed. Just a heads up.

Wow, he's been involved in some old series, and ones that really stood out when they came out (I really liked Cow and Chicken, and still love Chalk Zone). So many choices! |

If you want to do Packers, you can do Packers, but I really don't think we should put too many unecessary limitations on it. I like your idea, Imperfect, but I'd also like to do more ^_^ |
