Fandom-Wide Holiday Poster Project!

-----------------------------------

What's this? Why does this concept seem so strangely familiar? Perhaps because we're taking a good idea and making it even better! DPOC... more specifically, me, on behalf of DPOC, is organizing a fandom-wide holiday poster (and storybook, if we get enough written submissions!) project to send to Butch Hartman.

The best part? It doesn't matter if you are or aren't a member of any of the involved forums or clubs. All you have to do is send in your submission, and it's in the poster! If you own a forum or club and want to be in on the project, send an email letting me know!

Involved Clubs/sites/communities:
Entry requirements:
-Out of respect for the recipient's wishes, no slash submissions for the poster, please.
-Since it's a winter holiday poster/book, please keep your entries to that theme- Thanksgiving, winter, Christmas, New Years, etc!
-Minimum image size: 1000 x 1000. Remember, these are going to be printed, and the higher the image resolution, the better it'll look on paper!
-Literary submissions need to be no more than 1 page long in 12pt Times New Roman font. (Note that if we get enough written submissions to make a separate holiday book, the limit will be raised to 5 pages.)
-Don't forget to sign your work!
-Accepted file formats: .gif, .jpg, .png, .psd, .bmp, .txt., .doc, .rtf
-Email your submissions to poster@dannyphantomonline.com

Submission deadline: December 5 (So that there's enough time to compile and print the poster and put together the book!)

FAQ
So what kind of submissions are you looking for?
Artwork and short stories involving any of Butch Hartman's work. Obviously we're promoting the project primarily to Danny Phantom fans, but fans of Fairly Odd Parents are also welcome to submit work!

How many times can we enter?
For the sake of fairness, one entry per person. But you can collaborate with other artists and writers as well. And writers, if you want to get enough literature submissions to do the storybook as well as the poster, we recommend pairing up with fanartists to do an illustration to go with your story!

What about my original work that's inspired by Butch's stuff?
While it's cool that he's been an inspiration to you, this project is to celebrate his work, so let's keep it to DP and FOP characters, kay?

Shoot, that's awesome.

I'll have to get to a scanner and clean something up for this.

P.S. Is a personal message to Butch possible with a submission? I'd like to, if that's possible.

You can definitely put a short message on your submission :) But remember that in theory there are going to be a LOT of entries on this poster, so it may be better to just aim for a visual impact rather than a wordy impact ;)

Well, I've contacted Roadrunner over on DPOF about getting them in on it, but haven't heard a reply yet. She said she would try and help get the word out.

I would contact Zcat directly, but... ah... She has some issues with me and the DPRF club. Because we allow slash fanworks. That and she never responded the last time I tried to contact her about a "Save Danny!" idea.

I think it's time for this fan/anti-fan thing to be put aside and ALL fans group together to help save this show!

Indeed, it's long past time for people to get over the true/anti stuff! :) Good to have you on board- I'm pretty sure I'll come running for advice if DPO and DPRF continue to try and run projects like this- mostly geared toward bringing fans together, but if sending an extra copy to the studio exec's is also an option... mwahahaha, let's do it! :D

anything involving the DPRF and DPOC is going to be frowned upon..remember? Both allow slash to be posted and that makes all of us sick people even though not all of us are into that. In fact, I'm pretty sure Fury herself doesn't support slash. She just wanted to make a community where everyone could feel welcome and not be afraid to post...:/

Yeah. I mean, I am really not a fan of slash at all. I respect that some people like it, but just don't show it to me and I'll be a happy camper. (though the idea that people make slash pairings out of kid's cartoons boggles my mind)

Personally I think Z's reaction was a lot nastier than it needed to be, and it really makes me *less* interested in hanging out on that forum.

Let's see... in order:

1) Yes, there will be pics of the finished poster put up online. Both the clean image file, and at least one photograph of the actual poster. You folks put all the hard work into your entries, I would be ashamed of myself if I didn't post it for everybody to see!

2) I need to update the website count, but at the moment we're up to 43 entries, and I'm under the impression there's going to be a bunch more rolling in by the time the extension is up.

So far I can confirm that we have entries from all over the US, as well as from south of the border (Um.. how many countries DOES the Latin Nick forum serve, anyway? Hafta ask Feri XD), a few from the UK, and one entry from an Australian fan.

54 entries, representing the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Puerto Rico, Australia, I think the United Kingdom, and various other South American countries who's names currently escape me. ^^;

It's certainly kicking my poor computer's ass! The file size with all 54 entries arranged is 123 MB, and has a print size of 28x19 inches. And that's not counting the border that I still need to put on it! I had to play some creative computer memory management just to SAVE the file toward the end!

Now that the entries are all arranged (Tetris game from HELL, I swear!), tomorrow I'm going to head down to the frame place and figure out what standard frame size is closest to the current size. The border will then pad the poster size to fit said standard size, because I reaaally don't want to have to pay for a custom frame, too! Plus the border can be used to list all the communities that participated and stuff :)

And here's a screenshot of the completed arrangement:

Re: Fandom-Wide Holiday Poster Project!

-----------------------------------

IT IS DONE! My poor abused computer barely managed it, but the poster design is finalized, and I already purchased the frame for it (luck was with me, frames were on sale when I was looking! :D)

The print size will be 28 x 22 inches (8400 x 6600 pixels). The file size of the finalized poster is a much more manageable 35.5 MB (the file with the entries all split onto separate layers was like, 150-someodd MB :D )

It goes to the printer tomorrow, and hopefully it shouldn't take more than a few days to get it back and put into the frame. Looks like Butch will probably be receiving it a little tiny bit after the holidays, but I'm told he might not even be in town this week, sooo... it all works out in the end :)

It's been an experience and quite an honor to work with fans from all over the world, and to put everyone's efforts into something tangible like this. You guys prove that despite what some people may say about our fandom, that we can still work together to do something positive- and have fun doing it! This really is the spirit of the season, people from all walks of life coming together to share in a common goal. Hopefully I'm not just being a sentimental fruit loop here, and that everyone who's helped shares that feeling, too. :)

I owe many thanks to Feri, Roadrunner, and Ghostwriter56- the first for essentially being the project liason to the Latin board, and helping fans get across the language barrier to participate; the second for helping promote the project to fans that otherwise might not have heard about the project and for her welcome and much-needeed support; and the third for sharing a wealth of advice and suggestions earlier this year when the poster was still just a glimmer of an idea. You guys rock and this poster would not be possible without the support of such wonderful people. And of course, I also owe thanks to every single person who submitted an entry, helped spread the word, and otherwise make this truly a fandom-wide collaboration.

I look forward to working with everyone again on future projects. ;)

I'll be posting a slightly better copy of the poster image file online later this week, as well as photos of the actual poster. In the meantime, here's what it looks like now:

Tell you what- I have to print the story submissions separately anyway (They ARE readable on the poster itself, but you've got to get right up to it, so I'm including the stories in an envelope on the back of the frame.) There's also another art entry that I was supposed to have gotten but for some reason didn't, so I'll print yours and that one to include so that Butch gets them, even though they aren't in the poster itself.

How's that sound?

This is why I sent out emails to confirm that I received entries x_x Like with the other two that somehow didn't get to me but should have, I'll print it so that Butch will still get it, even if it's not in the actual poster.

Well, there's always a Valentine Project!

Last year I did a "Chain of Love For Danny Phantom" to send to Nick.

What everyone did was do a valentine centered around Danny..not OC's or other characters....just Danny Fenton or Phantom and I tied them to a nice length of white chain and sent it to Nick.

Maybe you can do something like that for Butch?

Actually, for various reasons I don't trust it to get to him if mailed- I'm making arrangements to have it delivered directly to Butch. Hopefully I'll have a delivery date for everyone within a week (and whether or not I'll be going along for the delivery.) Apparently the guy's been insanely busy trying to get a new show sold, so it's proving a bit tedious to get a time ^^;

I'm sure he'll love it!

Like I said on AIM, I could do the assembling of stuff on my comp and just send you the finished file. I have a faster internet connection (downloading wouldn't take as long) and plenty of freetime.. :P

Another project for Butch would be great. As for when, well, DPOF always has the anniversary of DP taken care of so let's not infringe on that... but what abaout his birthday? Or something along the lines of that.

As for what to do... I think we could make a slideshow or something like that, you know? I had my idea a few months ago for people to take pictures and we spell out D-A-N-N-Y P-H-A-N-T-O-M and assemble it in one collage, but no one ever actually took the pictures. [/ideas]

& I'm going to move this to just a normal announcement now that it's complete.

I was thinking a summer themed thing (so as not to overlap DPOF's anniversary project), and maybe something to give to Steve Marmel.

Actually, if Goku-san can keep us informed as to how well the Packers are doing this year, maybe something Vlad and Packers themed to give him, since he's the cheesehead behind Vlad being a cheesehead XD

They lost on Sunday so they don't get home field advantage. They're 12-3. They're still in the play-offs though. But they'll have to go to Dallas during the play-offs and Brett for some reason freaks out when he plays down there. So yeah, the Packers have a 0-9 record down there (hopefully he'll get over that). They have a bye-week in the play-offs. They'll be playing either Jan. 12 or 13 for the first play-off game. We'll see how that goes.

The birthday idea sounds incredible for me, Kismet! I was planning on sending him a fangir- I MEAN, fan package full of stuffers I'd give him, but for now that cannot happen (unless i get a car and rmiacoulously learn to drive this instant) but i approve of the birthday idea 8D *w* and the slideshow, and giving Steve something 8D (i drew him a yin and yang dresse din Packer clothes in the gRafitti thing in Facebook but i dont think he saw it.. is aved the pic though xD)

AGH SO MANY AWESOME ideas *implode*

Hey hey hey, and if we DO a birthday thing LATER on, maybe.. ONLY MAYBE, we can get familair people to leave a emssage? Like dAvid Kaufman? hE's real nice and he always tries to reply to fan mail! maybe he can do that little something for us, and we could try with Grey Delisle.. i don't know, just brainstorming...

Anything you guys plan to give these awesome people, count ME IN!

*giggle* Feri, you crack me up girl! :)

I like the idea of something Packers-themed for Steve. I drew a pretty decent Cheesehead on Vladdie... :D

I like the spelling out idea, Kis, that sounds really cool! Can I claim D though? Cuz I would love to do my pic in cosplay and since there's a D on the costume.... :D

It would be great to do something for the VAs, David gets a lot of attention, but maybe a slightly smaller thing for each of the main VAs, Grey and Ricky and Rob and Kath and maybe Martin too?

Well, if I'm right, the thread for that photo project is still somewhere in FanArt... anyone want to unbury it?

And for the VAs, we could make character-themed posters. Tons of Vlad images for Martin, Sam for Grey, etc....

Oh, man, I can think of so many things this quickly, but organizing it is a whole different story. Which ones do we want to do -- one or all?

Depending how far the Packers go, it could be Super Bowl themed for the Cheesehead Vlad thing for Steve. The Super Bowl is on Feb.4.

Even if they don't make it it would still be a fun theme..XD..Perhaps the project could be a picture mozic where the images are arrange to form the Packers' embelm.
